"I'm proud of my thighs. They're the tools of my trade"
As a British sportsperson, cyclist Pendleton has stood out in recent years by not being utterly shit. Having won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Olympics, she was awarded an MBE. She cheerfully admits to using incontinence pads to dress her own wounds when thrown off the bike (“they’re great for mopping up the gunk”) and berates big-faced contrarian Jeremy Clarkson for encouraging dangerous driving. “But I’m still a girl and love putting a frock on and feeling feminine,” she says. “I worry sometimes with all of the training I do that I won’t look feminine. So it’s nice sometimes to make the effort and ‘feel like a lady.’” Oh yes it is.
